New 2017 Nissan Rogue at Reedman-Toll Nissan for Bethesda, MD

There is a well-trod path to the Nissan Rogue in most driveways these days, and that is because it is such a reliable and fun vehicle. The Nissan Rogue gets a few changes in 2017, namely a new hybrid version (mid- to late-season release), extra sound insulation so you aren't annoyed by the sound of the road and can listen to your phone calls/music easier, and a minor styling change or two. Some more available changes and choices involve a premium Platinum Reserve interior package, a hands-free liftgate, remote ignition, adaptive cruise control with forward collision mitigation, a heated steering wheel, and driver seat memory functions.

Under the Rogue's Hood

Let's look closer at the new five-passenger 2017 Nissan Rogue and its energy-conscious twin, the new Rogue Hybrid. While the non-hybrid Rogue continues with its 170-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine across all trims, the Rogue Hybrid collaborates with double power sources: a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a 30-kW electric motor (via a lithium-ion battery), that sees a sum of 176-hp. Both Rogue versions have Nissan's Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission, with driver's choice of Normal, Sport and Eco modes. The Sport mode will make shifting fun and acceleration more tangible, and the Eco mode will assist in the fuel economy department. Both versions come standard with front-wheel drive, however owners can access an all-wheel drive for a price increase, one that most will gladly do. All models are standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is at 170 horsepower and manufactures 175 pound-feet of torque, fused with a CVT that sends power judiciously to the front wheels. The new Nissan Rogue Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder along with a 30-kW electric motor (176 hp combined output) and is offered in front- or all-wheel drive.

Design of Nissan Rogue

The 2017 Nissan Rogue is a 4-door compact crossover SUV that is able to be purchased in 3 trim levels: S, SV and SL (Hybrid version is either SL or SV trim). Standard features for the 17-inch steel wheel rocking S trim contains a smart cargo management system, LED Daytime Running Lights, a rearview camera, sliding and reclining 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats, Bluetooth phone and streaming audio, a 5-inch infotainment screen, and a 4-speaker CD player with USB input and a satellite radio. The SV trim puts in a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector, alloy wheels, heated mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, roof rails, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, remote ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, automatic headlights, heated front seats, a 6-way power driver seat, and a 6-speaker audio system. The premium SL trim incorporates 18-inch wheels, a motion-activated power liftgate, automatic high beams, foglights, leather upholstery, a universal garage door opener, a heated steering wheel, driver-seat memory functions, Siri Eyes-Free, Nissan Connect emergency and convenience telematics, a 7-inch touchscreen, a surround-view camera system, a navigation system, and a Bose audio system with 9-speakers. Other impressive accents and items to check into include a panoramic sunroof for the SV and SL trims, and a third row of seats for the S and SV trims (magnifying passenger room to enable seven). The SL trim is also able to add a lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with forward collision mitigation. The SL Premium Reserve package is new and that makes the insides smooth with premium quilted leather upholstery. The Rogue's interior brings in quality materials that are assembled with care. It's not often that plastics are given a high mark but here they feel soft and great! Third-row seating is possible to obtain on S and SV models. The Rogue understandably presents lots of cargo space, and the well-designed organizer is very helpful.
