New 2017 Nissan Maxima at Reedman-Toll Nissan for Bethesda, MD

The 2017 Nissan Maxima is a recently redesigned 4-door sedan and essentially a high powered luxury vehicle. With its standard 300-horsepower V6 and ready chassis, the Maxima is as swift on the straightaway as it is deft on the turns. Newly minted design as of last year, the 2017 Maxima is further enhanced with the addition of Apple CarPlay integration as standard. Also new are two accessory packages -- Medallion and Dynamic.  This is a vehicle offering to provide an alternate class of sports car, one with stately presence and refined appearance, yet more than enough power under the hood to not be left behind on the open road.

Under the Maxima's Hood

The impressive core of this car is Nissan's legendary 3.5 liter VQ V6 engine which gets 300 horsepower and a torque rated at 261 lb-ft. From sodium-filled exhaust valves and anodized pistons, to the high-flow induction system, more than 60% of the engine's components were redesigned for the Maxima. It also features a Drive Mode Selector that adjusts throttle response, transmission tuning, steering feel and Active Sound Enhancement tuning, to more actively reflect the needs of the driver (Sport or Normal). Plus, its fuel economy is at an EPA rating of 21/30 city/highway mpg, a 15 percent increase in highway since just last year's model. The suspension is an independent subframe-mounted strut/coil spring design in front. The 3.5-liter V6 engine works with an Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which is coupled with "D-Step" shift logic that simulates gear changes quite accurately. The Maxima is very agreeable in focused driving. On the highway, the smooth feel and quiet interior make it feel like a first-class car.

Conclusions

Putting more power under the hood is never the entire equation when it comes to building a car, and Nissan has definitely rounded out it's choices with many, many safety feature sets here.  Responsive braking: standard 4-wheel (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) plus Brake Assist make their appearance. Steering gets a speed-sensitive power-assistance. Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW) monitors not just one, but two cars ahead (which is what I do in traffic, by the way). There really is a plethora of safety features, ask your dealer about what's going on in the background around you when test driving. Of course, airbags provide even more peace of mind and Maxima comes equipped with standard Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) for the driver and front passenger seats as well as roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bags with rollover sensor for front and rear outboard occupant head protection. Also standard are 3-point rear seat belts for all seating positions, front seat belts with dual pretensioners, emergency inside trunk release, Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with Easy-Fill Tire Alert. Maxima also features standard Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS). The 2017 Nissan Murano is superbly safe with all of these features, and will serve you well whether you are chauffeuring your colleagues about or by setting the pace on the way to the second house out in the countryside, for instance.
